Restore Belize, Community Project at Cleopatra White Polyclinic II – Belize City

Restore Belize is an initiative formed in June of 2010, whose mission is to make Belize  a safe, vibrant home for residents through inclusive, multi-sectoral and citizen centered action.
They have a wide variety of programs and projects that work together making Belize a better place.
Last week I had the pleasure of joining Restore Belize to photograph their environmental beautification project at Cleopatra White Polyclinic II. It is one of a series of clinics that Restore Belize is working on to implement new landscaping and painting murals. The projects are lead by Lisa Middleton of Restore Belize and their high school scholarship students. The students are between the ages of 13 and 18 and Restore Belize sponsors 58 students through specified donors. Scholarships may include (but are not limited to) uniforms, books tuition and other school supplies. The scholarship program started in 2011 and is having great success. The students who receive scholarships are picked by their principles and then they apply for the scholarships. The students I met the other day at the clinic were very sweet and happy to be working on this community project. These projects are a way for the students to give back to the community while working together.
Spending the afternoon with Lisa and the students of Restore Belize was a great reminder that every effort counts when it comes to improving your community. The students worked together and demonstrated great ability to get these projects done as a team. As people in the waiting room saw the murals go up it brought a smile to everyone around.
Enjoy! – Katie K.
